Osteoarthritis (OA) is a long-lasting joint disease. It doesn’t have a single cause we can point to. Instead, it develops through a gradual imbalance inside the joint, where cartilage, bone, synovial membrane, ligaments, and even muscles are all affected over time.

It is very common in dogs, cats, and horses, especially as they grow older
But it is not just “normal aging” – OA is a disease that needs to be taken seriously
Recognizing it early makes a real difference: with the right care, animals can stay more comfortable and enjoy a better quality of life

OA progresses through a self-perpetuating vicious circle.

The joint becomes inflamed, and the body reacts by producing abnormal bone remodeling (extra bone growth).
Instead of solving the problem, these changes increase pain, stiffness, and joint damage.
As animals move less, muscles weaken and the joint becomes more unstable, which drives even more inflammation and further abnormal remodeling.
